Dotdigital helps you build customer relationships through email and automation. Triggerbee brings that same intelligence to your website and turns visits and clicks into personalized onsite experiences powered by your Dotdigital data.
Triggerbee identifies visitors, tracks their behavior, and sends form submissions straight into Dotdigital. When you combine Dotdigital lists or segments with onsite activity, you get a connected journey across email and your website.
The result is simple:
Dotdigital powers your offsite communication.
Triggerbee powers your onsite experiences.
Step by step instructions
1. Create an API user in Dotdigital
Open Dotdigital and go to Settings.
Click Access, then click on API users.
Click Add new API user.
Fill in the API user details. Here is how to complete each field:
Leave the Email address as it is.
Type Triggerbee in the Description field.
Enter your own password and confirm it. This password is what you will use when connecting Dotdigital in Triggerbee.
Keep Rate limiting set to Tiered.
Set Status to Enabled.
When done, click Save. Copy the generated API email and note the password you selected.
2. Connect Triggerbee to Dotdigital
In Triggerbee, open the menu and go to Apps and Integrations.
Scroll down and click Browse apps.
Select Dotdigital from the list of available apps.
Enter your Dotdigital API username and password.
Choose which attributes Triggerbee should update in Dotdigital after each visit.
If you activate Automatic contact attribute creation (Recommended), Triggerbee will automatically create any missing fields in your Dotdigital account. The fields created depend on the attributes you select in the dropdown.
β
When you're done, click Save and the integration is now active.
Note: If you choose to keep the Automatic contact attribute setting OFF, you must create these fields in Dotdigital yourself. If the fields do not exist, no data will be updated and the sync will not populate anything in Dotdigital.
Sending new leads and contacts to Dotdigital
Once the integration is connected, you can send new subscribers and form submissions directly into Dotdigital.
Open your campaign in the Triggerbee editor.
Go to Form Settings.
Enable Dotdigital.
Choose the Dotdigital list to add contacts to.
Triggerbee will send the email address and all mapped fields after each successful form submission.
Mapping form fields
If your form includes multiple fields, each one needs to be mapped to a Dotdigital data field. Open Form Settings, enable Dotdigital, and map your Triggerbee fields to the corresponding fields in Dotdigital.
Using Dotdigital lists and segments for targeting
With the integration active, you can show onsite campaigns only to visitors who belong to specific Dotdigital lists or segments.
To set this up:
Go to Audiences in Triggerbee.
Create a new audience.
Click on Add filter and select the Dotdigital list or segment.
Choose whether to include or exclude visitors in that list.
Save the audience.
You can now use this audience in any campaign.
Note: Targeting based on Dotdigital lists or segments requires the visitor to be identified in Triggerbee.
Identifying Dotdigital contacts from email
Triggerbee can identify Dotdigital contacts when they click a link in your email campaigns. This links their onsite behavior with their Dotdigital profile and unlocks list or segment targeting.
Note:
Dotdigital currently does not support automatic email identification. To identify users clicking in emails, you need to manually tag your buttons, links, and images.
How to set it up
Click on a button, link or image in the Dotdigital email editor.
Add your website URL followed by:
?utm_custom[email]=@EMAIL@Click Save.
Your link should look like this:
https://yourwebsite.com/page/?utm_custom[email]=@EMAIL@
When a subscriber clicks this link and lands on your site, Triggerbee identifies them automatically.
Customizing form messages based on Dotdigital status
You can show different messages after a form submission depending on what Dotdigital reports.
To support this, your campaign must contain at least three steps:
Signup step where the visitor enters their information.
Success step shown when the visitor is new and Dotdigital accepts the submission.
Rejection step is shown if the visitor already exists or Dotdigital does not add them.
Here's how to configure these messages:
Open Form Settings.
Scroll to Show Message.
Adjust the messages for:
