Want to learn more about how Triggerbee works? This guide takes you through the platform in more detail, from understanding your website visitors to creating personalized onsite experiences.
Triggerbee is an onsite personalization platform B2C and B2B businesses. It helps you understand visitor behavior, build audiences, and create engaging onsite experiences such as popups, forms, surveys, and personalized content – without coding.
By combining website behavior with customer data from your CRM or marketing tools, you can deliver more relevant messages, collect valuable customer information, and drive conversions.
In this guide, we'll explore how the different parts of Triggerbee work together, using practical examples along the way.
Understand your visitors with Visitor Feed
The visitor feed shows your traffic in real-time. Triggerbee shows where your visitors come from (direct, newsletters, social media, etc.) and what they do on the website. Filter out different segments and go in with the "magnifying glass" on specific visitors to see the traffic flows from social media, through a Triggerbee campaign to a purchase, for instance.
It is possible to create even more granular audiences by logging goals and interest profiles. Goals represent important events on your website, such as logins and completed purchases, while content dimensions and interest profiles are a categorization of your website that helps you understand what categories each visitor is most interested in.
Identification
By default, Triggerbee tracks visitors anonymously. However, when a visitor provides identifying information, such as an email address, Triggerbee can connect their website activity to an individual visitor profile.
Visitors can be identified in several ways, including:
Onsite experiences – Collect email addresses through forms, newsletter signups, or other onsite experiences.
CRM and marketing integrations – Recognize visitors through supported integrations and identification links.
JavaScript identification – Identify visitors by sending information such as an email address or customer ID directly to Triggerbee.
We recommend that you work with these three approaches simultaneously and continuously to maintain a high identification rate.
Once identified, you can connect visitor behavior with customer information to create more relevant audiences and personalized onsite experiences. For example, you can recognize an existing newsletter subscriber and show them a relevant offer instead of asking them to sign up again.
Engage visitors with onsite experiences
With Triggerbee, you can turn visitor insights into action by creating personalized onsite experiences that engage visitors directly on your website.
Onsite experiences can be used for a variety of purposes, such as:
Grow your audience – Collect email addresses, encourage newsletter signups, and acquire new members.
Drive conversions – Promote special offers, highlight products, and encourage purchases.
Understand your visitors – Collect feedback, run surveys, and learn more about your audience.
Increase engagement – Guide visitors toward relevant content, products, or next steps.
Your experiences can appear as popups, banners, embedded content, nudges, or other layouts, depending on what you want to achieve. By combining onsite experiences with visitor data and personalization, you can deliver more relevant messages throughout the customer journey.
Step 1 - Design your onsite experiences
Creating onsite experiences in Triggerbee is easy with our visual, drag-and-drop editor. You can start with a ready-made template or build your own experience from scratch, without writing any code.
Customize your experience to match your brand and objectives using a variety of design elements and settings:
Layouts and structure – Build your experience using containers, columns, and different layouts such as popups, panels, nudges, and embedded content.
Content and design – Add headlines, text, images, buttons, forms, and other interactive elements. Customize colors, fonts, spacing, and sizes to match your brand.
Multi-step experiences – Create interactive flows with multiple steps, such as quizzes, product guides, and surveys.
Desktop and mobile – Adjust the design and layout for different screen sizes to create a great experience across devices.
Once you're happy with your design, you can preview your experience before publishing it.
Start by choosing the layout of your onsite experience, such as a popup, callout, panel, nudge, or embedded experience. Each layout determines how and where your experience appears on your website.
In the visual editor, simply click on any element to customize it using the canvas or the settings panel on the right. Adjust text, images, colors, fonts, spacing, and other design settings to match your brand.
To keep your experiences consistent with your website, use Brand Settings to automatically apply your brand colors, fonts, and default styles.
You can also add new elements to make your experience more engaging, such as forms, buttons, countdown timers, images, or additional text. Arrange these elements using containers and columns to create the layout you want.
Don't forget to design all the steps in your experience. For the use case we're working with, it's a good idea to add the discount code element to the success step, to seamlessly deliver the discount code to the visitor after conversion.
If you're working with a Form, eg. your campaign contains at least one input field, you will also be prompted to connect your widget to your integrated CRM, to let Triggerbee know where to send your new contact. You do this under Form Settings, where you select your CRM and any list or tag to send the contact to.
Step 2 - Audience and targeting
Not all website visitors are the same. Some are visiting for the first time, others are returning customers, and some have already shown interest in specific products or categories.
With Triggerbee, you can create audiences based on visitor behavior, interests, identification status, and customer data from your connected marketing tools.
For example, you can create audiences for:
New visitors – Visitors exploring your website for the first time.
Returning visitors – Visitors who have visited your website before.
Identified customers – Visitors recognized through email addresses, customer IDs, or connected marketing tools.
Interested visitors – Visitors who have browsed specific products, categories, or content.
These audiences help you understand different visitor groups and create more relevant onsite experiences for each one.
How does it work?
Build your audiences by combining different targeting criteria based on visitor behavior, interests, purchase history, traffic sources, and more.
For example, you could create an audience of visitors who have shown interest in shoes but haven't made a purchase in the last 30 days. If you have a connected CRM, you can also use customer data to target specific groups, such as members with an unused bonus or an upcoming birthday.
All criteria are organized into categories, making it easy to find and combine the options you need. Some criteria are based on the visitor's profile and historical behavior, while others relate to their current visit, such as device type, traffic source, or UTM campaign. For more advanced targeting, you can also use JavaScript, cookies, and query parameters to create audiences based on information such as cart value, login status, or other data available on your website.
You can build your own audience from scratch by combining targeting criteria, or get started quickly with one of our ready-made Quick-start templates.

Configure and publish your onsite experience
Now that you've created your audiences and designed your onsite experience, it's time to configure how, when, and to whom it should be displayed.
Before publishing, Triggerbee lets you customize several settings to make sure your experience reaches the right visitors at the right moment.
Audience and targeting
Start by selecting which visitors should see your experience.
Audience – Choose one of your saved audiences, or select Everyone to target all visitors. You can also combine audiences with additional session conditions.
Session conditions – Add criteria based on the visitor's current session, such as device type, traffic source, or other browser-related information.
Assisting sales – Configure when an experience should be considered to have assisted a purchase.
Personalized variants (optional) – If needed - you can create different versions of your experience for different audiences, each with its own content and targeting.
A/B testing (optional) – If you want, you can create an A/B test from your experience. In that case, an additional variant of your current onsite experience will be created. You can then open the new variant and customize its design, such as colors, text, buttons, or any other elements you'd like to test. Read more about AB/ tests.
Display settings
Next, configure where, when, and how often your experience should appear.
Where? – Select which pages or URLs your experience should be displayed on or excluded from.
Triggers – Decide what should trigger your experience, such as time on page, scroll depth, or exit intent.
Scheduling – Choose when your experience should be active by setting a start and end date (if needed)
Repetition – Control how often visitors see your experience, including what happens after they dismiss or interact with it.
Experience classification – Triggerbee automatically assigns strategic objectives and use cases based on the type of onsite experience you've created. You can review and adjust these classifications to match what you want to measure and track in your performance reports.
You're ready to go!
That's it! Your onsite experience is ready to be published. Once it's live, you can follow its performance in the Onsite Experiences Dashboard to see how visitors interact with it and what results it generates. Use these insights to test, optimize, and continuously improve your onsite experiences.
Congratulations, you've made it to the end of this guide! You now have a better understanding of how Triggerbee works and how to use it to create more relevant and personalized experiences for your visitors.
Happy personalizing! ⭐️
